The Whalers were founded as a dive club attached to Scuba-Dubba Dive, run by Jim Ashenbrenner, in 1963. This makes us one of the oldest dive clubs in Los Angeles. 

In 1981 The Whalers split off as an independent club not associated with any dive shop. We maintain relationships with many local dive shops in the area, and many offer discounts and other benefits to our membership.

The Whalers adopted Deer Creek State Beach a long time ago, and hold at least three annual beach cleanup and dive here. See our adoption papers. Cleanup days are always listed on our events pages.

In 2007 we incorporated as a California 501c7 not-for-profit social club.
