Q: How long have the Whalers been around? 
A: The Whalers are one of the oldest dive clubs in Los Angeles. We've been here since 1963. See our HISTORY page for more info.


Q: How many members are in the Whalers?
A: There are about 75 active members currently; over the years the Whalers have grown and shrunk with the economy. 


Q: Are the Whalers incorporated?
A: Yes, We incorporated in 2007 as a non-profit 501c(7) corporation.


Q: What are bylaws of the Whalers?
A: Our bylaws can be found here. They we last updated in 2007 when we incorporated.


Q: How do I become a member?
A: Click here for membership information, or, send an e-mail to our membership chair and we'll send you an application, or, even better, come to a general meeting and meet us all.


Q: What does membership cost?
A: Individual membership is $25 annually. We also offer a family membership for $35 a year, that covers all members of the same household. This money is used to cover our operating expenses such as the monthly newsletter, web site, and Whalers funded and subsidized events. Membership info can be found here.


Q: What type of diving do The Whalers do?
A: The Whalers are a recreational dive club. Our dive trips focus on non-deco diving. We have photographers, hunters and many who just like to get wet and cruise with the marine life.


Q: What type of trips do The Whalers go on?
A: We arrange one to two international trips a year in addition to our monthly local boat dives. In recent years, we have travelled to Sulawesi and Bali Indonesia; Loretto, Cozumel, La Paz, and the Socorro Islands, Mexico; Fiji, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen, and many others over the years. Check the EVENTS pages for all trip details. In 2013, we went to Roatan Honduras. Our 2014 trips are to Cayman Brac and also to Bonaire. 2015 saw us in the Turks & Caicos.

Q: Are the Whalers affiliated with a dive shop?
A: The Whalers pride ourselves in remaining an independent dive club. We do maintain relationships with a number of local dive shops and dive trip related organizations which provide mutual benefits to both the membership and to the store owners.
